Then, one day, a strange man approaches Rob with what seems to be the answer to his prayer. He offers Rob the justice he's been so desperately seeking. But Rob will learn only too late that there is a catch....

Vengeance (Audible Audio Edition) Brian Pinkerton Dave Courvoisier Books in Motion Books

Vengeance by Brian Pinkerton is a thrilling ride that is packed full of suspense and drama. Imagine that something terrible has happened to someone you care about. Maybe someone was in an accident because another person was driving carelessly, or a friend was killed by a drunk driver, or a child was killed by a drug addiction. To make things even worse, the person responsible for this horrible event is walking away with a slap on the wrist, another loophole in the American justice system. What would you do to be able to exact the punishment that the person deserves? This is the idea behind Vengeance. Multiple people have suffered at the hands of cruel individuals who get away with little or no punishment. They are then approached by a strange man in a suit. He offers to make the criminals "go away." What does that mean? Send them to jail? That has already been tried and the legal system failed the families. No, not jail, go away forever. This is the choice that is offered to Rob after a driver carelessly kills his fiance and then drives away. Rob accepts because he wants vengeance, but everything comes at a cost.
Vengeance, at its core, is really the story that we all want to see happen in real life. We all know that bad people get away with things all the time, but because of problems with the legal system or little loopholes they are able to get away with a lot and pay very little for it. This story takes the legal system out of the equation and gives the power back to the victims. Eye for an eye mentalities start to take over as vengeance is taken on those who deserve it. The ethical problem that comes with this is where does it stop? As spoon as you get revenge, all you have really done is started the cycle over again. We all need to ask ourselves, how far should we be able to go before enough is enough?

Vengeance (Audible Audio Edition) Brian Pinkerton Dave Courvoisier Books in Motion Books Reviews

The title of this story is perfect for the content enclosed throughout the narrative. It is made up of a few classic tales of when people take vengeance into their own hands. The problem with this is that it rarely ever works out in your favor, which is also the case in some of the instances included in this book. As for the main character Rob, he is likeable enough, but you also want to shake him when he makes some of the decisions he makes. A few scenes were rather predicable and easy to figure out, but that doesn’t make this one any less interesting. It’s hard to say what you would do in some of the same situations, so it’s best not to judge any of the main characters, especially when they were failed by the justice system. If you like tales of comeuppance, this is something you should enjoy reading.
Vengeance hits the ground running in the first chapter! And the injustice of what happens to Beth (and Rob) is not too far from the truth, unfortunately. Think of how many times have people said, "there is no justice in the world!" I personally didn't agree with the principles of The Circle, even though I can empathize. I think Rob was just so weak and traumatized from what happened that he felt their group was a safe haven, and one of understanding. The concept of Vengeance isn't entirely original, which is why I only "liked " it, but there are a few twists that I didn't see coming. I was expecting a different outcome for Rob's sake. Poor guy!

Overall, it's a nice, quick read with a solid lead character. It doesn't go as deeply into the psyche as I'd assumed from the overview, but I did enjoy it. Although, the idea of vengeance is something you'll end of thinking about. Would I? Wouldn't I?
Rob has just proposed to Beth and both lovers are living the most beautiful period of their relationship when an angry driver intentionally knocks Beth off her bike and kills her. He happens to be an attorney and while Rob awaits the worse sentencing for him, he clearly walks off, without even jail time. Infuriated and angry at his loss and the injustice of the system, Rob is bent on revenge. So, something extraordinary happens; he is invited to join a small circle of men seeking revenge, men who have lost a loved one in the same way Rob has lost his Beth. But what would be the cost of taking justice into his own hands? Vengeance by Brian Pinkerton is a story that will bring tears to the eyes of the readers. It is emotionally charged and explores the psychology of someone who has been treated very unjustly and who is obsessed with the sense of revenge. The story is beautifully written and readers will enjoy both the compelling cast of characters and the genius in plotting the story.
I may have found a new favorite author!

I love a good suspenseful story, one that makes you wonder, what if? or, would I?

Vengeance definitely asks both of those questions. How far would you go in order to get Vengeance for someone that you loved? Especially if the system let you down, and the person or persons that robbed you of the life of someone you loved, walked away, without so much as a slap on the hand.

Rob tries working within the system for years in order to gain justice for the death of his fiancee, killed in a vicious hit and run. The murderer is a wall known and well healed attorney, with plenty of money, plenty of clout and plenty of friends in high places. A simple school teacher, Rob never actually stood a chance when it came to fighting this man in court.

Then he is approached by a man with an offer. Join a Circle of people who are all equally motivated to get justice.

Well written, great character development and a wonderful and skillfully developed story. I really enjoyed this one, and recommend it.
